You are protected by a host of laws and regulations, as a consumer, at both the state and national level from firms who misrepresent their credit terms to you. While there is no protection against careless financial activity on your part, if you feel that some of your money problems are attributable to deception and/or unfair practices… you have many resources you can go to.
US Debt Network is not a law firm and does not propose to represent you on any legal issues you may have. However, working closely with consumers that have excessive credit card debt and need financial help, we are aware of many statutes that protect the consumer and, if desired by you, can direct you to legal counsel.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), a Federal law, is designed to promote accuracy, fairness, and privacy of information in the files of every consumer reporting agency. To provide consumers with the ability to easily resolve inaccuracies in their credit reports, in 1996 Congress amended the FCRA to require Equifax and the two other major credit bureaus, Trans Union and Experian, to provide consumers who receive a copy of their credit report with a toll-free telephone number and access to credit bureau personnel during normal business hours.
If you have a credit problem due to what you feel are credit bureau reporting inaccuracies, each credit bureau - Equifax, Experian and Trans Union have toll free numbers that should be promptly answered with personnel qualified to help you quickly resolve your credit reporting issues.
